Breaking My Bad Feelings Like Bricks

Sometimes my worries and sad thoughts feel like they are stacking up, one after another, until it's like I'm standing in front of a tall, heavy wall. That wall makes the day feel dark and hard to get through.

Turning Feelings into Bricks

When that happens, I play a little pretend game: I imagine each heavy feeling is just a brick in that wall. "I'm nervous about school"-that's one brick. "I feel left out"-another brick. Soon I can see all my feelings lined up, waiting to be knocked down.

Smashing the Wall

Then I open the Brick Break game. Every time the ball bounces and a brick disappears, I imagine one of my worries breaking apart. The ''lonely'' brick shatters. The ''angry'' brick crumbles. With each smash, my chest feels lighter, as if sunshine is peeking through the wall.

It doesn't make every worry vanish forever, but it reminds me that big feelings can be broken down into little pieces-and little pieces are easier to handle.

Want to Try?

If you ever feel weighed down, give it a try. Pretend your feelings are bricks, and knock them down one by one. You might find that behind that wall, there's a brighter space waiting for you.
